Kaleigh Johnson, responsable de la galerie artéfact et Sandrine Elberg, photographe et plasticienne réunissent, pour « Small is beautiful », vingt sept artistes qui, dans leurs médiums et démarches artistiques, proposent chacun une œuvre à collectionner. Le titre de l’exposition « Small is beautiful » est inspiré par le titre du livre popularisé de l’économiste E.F. Schumacher, publié en 1973. L’écrivain opposait l’idolâtrie du gigantisme à la beauté de ce qui est petit. Les gens ne se sentent chez eux que dans un environnement à taille humaine. Ainsi, l’exposition présente des œuvres de petites tailles, des pièces imaginées comme une collection et ne mesurant pas plus de trente centimètres. Elles sont choisies en fonction de l’espace d’exposition et pour la majorité inédites ou créées spécialement pour cet évènement. Une pluralité de médiums comme la peinture, la sculpture, le dessin, la photographie, la céramique et le textile sera présentée dans l’exposition. Aussi, ce dernier évènement clôturera l’année calendaire 2017 chez artéfact et sera ponctué de plusieurs performances artistiques.
Kaleigh Johnson, co/owner of artéfact project space, and Sandrine Elberg, photographer and visual artist, bring together twenty/seven artists, each of whom, through their mediums and artistic approaches, propose a work to collect. The title of the exhibition, “Small is Beautiful”, is inspired by the title of the popularized book by economist E.F. Schumacher, published in 1973. The writer contrasted the idolatry of gigantism with the beauty of the small. People feel at home in a human/sized environment. Thus, the exhibition presents small/ sized works created to be part of a collection, measuring no more than thirty centimeters. Each piece was chosen specifically for artéfact and the majority created especially for this event. A variety of mediums such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, ceramics and textile will be featured. “Small is Beautiful” will close the calendar year 2017 at artéfact and will be punctuated by several artistic performances.
